Frequently Asked Questions

The Events:

Who can come to the events?

These events are open to residents of the Carron Valley & District Community Council Area and their invited guests.

Why are tickets needed?

The hall only holds forty people, so we’re selling tickets for the concerts online to make sure we’re not over-subscribed in the happy event that the whole community want to come!

The open sessions are non-ticketed and are open to all local residents and their invited guests.

Where can I buy tickets?

Tickets for all confirmed events are available on the tickets page. If, for whatever reason you can’t use the online booking system, please Email tickets@carronvalleysessions.co.uk and we’ll do our best to help.

Will there be a bar?

No! Tea and coffee and light refreshments will be available and are included in the ticket price. However, to keep things simple, we will not be running a bar. If you would like to enjoy a beer or a glass of wine whilst listening to the music, you are more than welcome to bring your own alcohol!

How Will the Open Sessions Work?

Simple answer: we don’t know yet! That depends on who turns up and what they want to do!

The general idea is that we’ll get together and share songs, tunes, stories and poems in a relaxed and non-threatening environment. This may be by taking turns to play or it may be by playing and/or singing together if that’s what people want to do.

The aim is to come together as a community and have some fun together. Perfection is not required – just willingness to give it a go. However, nobody will be forced to contribute – it’s perfectly fine to just come along, eat the biscuits and enjoy what others bring.

Is there an age limit?

These events are open to everybody in the community, though under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

The only planned event with an age restriction is the storytelling evening with Dawud Duncan, which will be for ages 14+.

The Organisation:

Who are Carron Valley Sessions?

We are a group of Carron Valley Residents who love music, the arts and socialising, and who want to see the community hall used as it was intended – to build community!

If you’d like to be involved in helping with these events, please let us know by using the contact form.

Is this Going to be an Ongoing Thing?

We don’t know yet! Think of this as a pilot project to gauge interest and learn what type of events people are interested in. We hope this will lead to the establishment of a formal group to help run more events in future, but that will only be decided after we see how these initial events are received.

How is This Project Being Financed?

The first concert will be free to attend (though tickets are still needed) and the others will be charged at £5 each. Even so, we expect ticket sales to cover less than a quarter of the cost of putting on these events. The shortfall is being generously covered by a VRG community grant. We are immensely grateful to VRG for their support!

For avoidance of doubt, the people running these events are giving freely of their time and are not being paid. Full accounts and receipts are going to be provided to VRG at the end of the project. Should any grant money be left over at the end of the project will either be used to host further events or returned to VRG (at their option).
